Waiting for the pop-up thermometer

Turkey in the tummy and pounds on your hips?
Our bird's still frozen; not one bite has passed over our lips.
Today I shall roast it and slice it up right.
We'll eat turkey and all of the trimmings in sight.
I'll bake pumpkin pie and top it with cream
When I step on the scale you might hear me scream.
Mashed potatoes and gravy, hot rolls and yams
dressing and green beans, cranberry sauce, oh man!

Our daughters prepared Thanksgiving dinners the weekend before so we knew we would be having a
low key kind of day while all of our kids did their own thing and travelled to relatives

Wednesday night we gave into temptation and bought a frozen turkey. We agreed, when IT was ready, we would be ready. We are hours away from a tryptophan induced mellow mood.

I am thankful for family, friends and blog buddies.

  1. Hi Linda...
Gone is the turkey and gravy, too. No more pecan pie, that's really true.
The fridge's looking empty, now imagine that.
Why oh why do I feel so fat?
Better get walking over hill and dale,
Or I'll have a heart attack when I get on that scale.
On Thanksgiving Day, I love to gobble
But I don't like the aftermath of wobble, wobble wobble.

Hope you have a good Saturday, Linda. This poem is not too far from the sorry truth. Susan

  2. Gone is the pie, and also the rolls...
From cooking the feast, my muscles are sore.
But look! My waistline has set a new goal--
It's embraced my self-control, which now is no more.

Linda--I hope you two have a wonderful day together...eat a little, take a nap, wake up, eat a little more, go to bed...wake up in the middle of the night and get a snack, and...(you get the idea)

  5. I stopped by with a comment, so quick and so short
Didn't know it should be of the cute, rhyming sort
But I know that I don't want to be the chain-breaker
When saluting Linda our late-turkey baker
Don't think of the calories, not in the least
From table to hips, it's a moveable feast

  6. You know, an after turkey sounds pretty good to me. Always grateful for festive times because they make appreciate the quiet ones even more. I have a cold smoked turkey breast I am going to slice for sandwiches tonight. Just got the all clear one son and dog are home safely again. You still have one more day before work again too! Enjoy.

  7. Your ditty about turkey
    has made me smurky!

I'm about to have leftover turkey for dinner. This was preceeded by leftover turkey for lunch. I'm walking around in a tryptophan haze. Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. Love all the poetry in the comments there Linda! I'm very envious of Thanksgiving, I must admit. We have to wait until Christmas before we get our turkey! Enjoy!

  9. Well, the only poem I wrote about Thanksgiving was Five Plump Turkeys. They are plump no more because, sorry to say. Gobble, gobble, chomp! We still have a little bit of our dressing left, but before tonight, I am sure it will be gone-my husband hasn't ate yet.

  10. We had a delightful Thanksgiving with friends.

I've discovered a way to beat the pounds. Take a taste of each food (including dessert), and then walk away from the table. Since we have no leftovers, temptation cannot follow us home.

  12. I made the stuffing and prepared the bird
The grandkids were there, bickering was heard
Good food, good conversation, we had lots of fun
Returned home to quiet...and leftovers? Not a one!
