Last week the preK class celebrated Dad's Night at Preschool
This is my funny honey, Nicole, and her daddy, my son. The dads played with their children for the first half hour. The children eagerly anticipated this event because I told them that THEY were their dad's boss for the evening and their dads had to play where the children told them. The dads were as thrilled as the kiddos. After the performance we went outdoors for a parachute lift. Each child sat on a pillow in the center of a large parachute, and the dads raised the kids high into the air and set them down gently, two times. you should have seen their faces and heard their giggles.
Then, we had snack on the parachute. It was such a memorable evening.
The children sang many songs and did finger plays. Their favorite was the dinosaur song:
Never go to lunch with a dinosaur, they're a mean, (facial grimace) foul, nasty group. They'll burp (kids pretend burp), and they'll slurp (make the sound) and they'll never sit down, and they'll spit right in your soup. (Sptooie!)
The dads laughed and applauded after each song or rhyme. My message to the fathers: As you watch your little boy or girl tonight, remember that they are also watching you and listening to you. They want to be just like you. And one day, they will do what you do and say what you say.

What a wonderful evening, Linda.
I am going to ask AGAIN: when can I enroll as a student in your preschool class?
Well said, Linda. Parents are the mirrors for their children. Little sponges, they are. Parents are soooooo important. Sounded like a great night for all. Great job! Susan
I never went to preschool or Kindergarten - it appears that I am missing some important building blocks in my education.
It sounds like fun for the kids and the dads.
Merle......
Oh what a fun idea, getting the dads involved like that. Love it! I'm sure they all had a very special time.
Sounds like a great night. Dads are so much more involved with kids than they used to be.
What a sweet, sweet post, Linda. Sounds like the whole experience was quite a gift for everyone.
Lovely idea - invaluable for both fathers and children.
Sounds like a great event! Words of wisdom there at the end, too. :)
Lately, we've heard Cat's in the Cradle on the car radio almost every day. "I'm gonna be like you, Dad..."
My son sings along. Yesterday he said, "Wait a minute. They spelled his name wrong. I thought it was Chaplin." Kids these days. I had to explain that it was Harry Chapin. Not Charlie Chaplin. Next thing you know, he'll be thinking it's "Harry Chapin Carpenter."
So right, Linda! Last week my hubby and I were on the phone with our son (he's 31) and he was describing an incident that he was involved in, a very unfair circumstance. My husband said, "I hope you're going to address that, son. That simply isn't fair." To which our beloved offspring replied, in a voice deliberately intended to mirror his dad's, "Life isn't fair, Dad." After a beat he laughed and said, "I've been waiting to say that since I was 14. And all this time you thought I never payed attention!" We shared a good laugh with him over that. And in all seriousness, you're so right. Our little ones watch our every move. Best we mind out Ps and Qs.
This sounds like it was a very special time for both kids and dads. I bet they all had great fun!
What dads do needs to be told more, especially if they're on their own. Loved this, Linda.
Don't they? These little ones mirror us.
