Out standing in our fields

Happy Halloween from a couple of fun-loving scarecrows. I loved making my kids' costumes when they were little.

These costumes took very little effort, cost minimal amount (thrift store dress) and the rest of the materials came from my craft closet and dress up bin at preschool.

Bill and I won monetary prizes for our scarecrow costumes over the years. We used to have so much fun at dances. We sure could rock and roll. Now we get dizzy just getting out of bed.

No more costumes for us since I got thick and he got thin. But those were the days!

Traditionally trick-or-treaters in our town are usually prepared with a joke or riddle, in order to receive candy. I still remember my first jokes: How do you make time fly?

Throw the clock out the window.

Knock-Knock

Who's There?

Boo Hoo

Boo hoo Who?

What are you crying about?

We received full-sized candybars and pennies. We went right to the penny candy counter at the neighborhood confectionery and bought MORE candy: Butterfingers, Baby Ruths, Mr. Goodbars and Mounds, those sickening sweet pink lipsticks, and Mary Janes.

I taught our great grandsons Liam, Alex, and Charlie their first Halloween joke: What do baby ghosts wear on Halloween?

BOOTIES

Tell me a joke. We live on a busy street and have NEVER had a trick or treater in thirty years.

What do you think?

This is one of my large serving spoons. What comes to mind when you see this image? A pot of soup or chicken and dumplings? A scoop of apple cobbler? Creamy mashed potatoes?

When my first great-grandson Liam was three, he asked me for my magic spoon. Hmmm? I let him search the silverware drawer until he found what he was looking for.

He walked away with it and bent his head almost to the floor gazing into the spoon. He tilted it and his head this way and that.

Life sometimes feels upside down like an inverted self image in the bowl of a serving spoon.

Liam tried repeatedly to flip his image in the spoon. I guess he figured if he stood on his head it would happen.

How to explain the principles of curved surface

reflections? Light travels straight until it hits a

curved surface.

The concave bowl of the spoon bounces incoming rays back toward a central focus point lying between your face and the center of  the spoon. In passing through this point, rays from the upper part of your face are reflected downward, while those from the lower part are reflected upward, thus an UPSIDE DOWN IMAGE.

We've all had an upside down kind of day where everything seems backwards or goes wrong. How do YOU handle it?

I have lived long enough to know tomorrow brings a change, no matter how small. There are things happening that we can not see which alter our perspective and lives.

Wishing you a heaping scoop of peace and a spoonful of patience if your life seems overwhelming right now.

An Unexpected Treasure

We've spent so many summers on so many different beaches over the years. As much as we love the ocean, we had given up on another beach vacation due to Bill's inability to walk without assistance, a cane or walker.

When his adult daughter, Robin, presented us with a proposal we could not refuse, we discussed the possibilities and agreed we would give it one more try. I am so glad we did. Our hearts are home at the beach. I can walk for miles eyes cast downward looking for my treasures. I can't walk around a small lake without complaining here at home at our neighborhood park.

My honey is unstable on his feet, so he sat at the shore and thouroughly enjoyed the surf washing in and out, massaging his feet. Truly a blessing for both of us. The sea gifted me a special shell, an incredible message from my late dearest friend.

Can you see my magic? I am releasing doves. Ha ha. Those are actually seagulls in the distance beyond the dolphins.

Our last beach vacation was a memorable blessing, and we are forever grateful we were able to spend a week on Sanibel Island in southern Florida, far away from the hurricane raging in the Northern Florida panhandle.

I don't know who was happier, Bill or Sassy Boy. We had a relative come in and feed the old boy (12). He has been Bill's shadow and is still asking for massages from "Dad" many times a day.

I love the sea and I know the sea misses me.
