So, I'm wondering if it was the heat, over 90 degrees, the humidity, or just being a writer? I hope it's not the beginning of the big A. At the family reunion, it was so hot you could bake cupcakes in the sun. I grabbed a name tag for myself and wrote BILL. Luckily, I caught it before I plastered my husband's name four inches high across my chest. But not before my cousin, Donna, told me I was losing it.
The humidity was so bad, we were ringing wet, and perhaps I was a bit dehydrated. Yeah, that's it. I had forgotten to take my morning vitamins, so that evening when we got home, I pulled the fish oil bottle out of the cupboard and started singing a song from the
'6os, "Three, six, nine, the goose drank wine, the monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line. The line broke, the monkey got choked, and they all went to heaven in a little row boat."
Where did that come from! I noted this morning that the numbers 3,6, 9 are printed prominently on the bottle right after the word Omega, thank goodness.
Then I went to the basement, and the flourescent light bulb hanging over the washer blew, and I swear, for a split second, I thought I was being flashed by one of those red light cameras. Writer's mind, right? I need some reassurance here.
This morning I am starting my day off with 16 ounces of water, hydrating this brain. Might even eat a banana. If I could remember what else it is that helps you remember, I'd take that too.

Hey Linda! I agree....it was the heat and humidity! All your brain cells were just fried, that's all, my dahhhhling!! Not to worry! AND, I remember that song, too! :D
That was funny, Linda. I HATE heat and humidity. That's a lethal combination. Sometimes I go into my pantry for something, get in there and have no idea what I went after. As soon as I go back into the kitchen, I remember. So back to the pantry I go. "And this way, and that way, this way, and that way" is the song that I would sing. I'd end it with "Did you ever see a lassie who can't remember a thing!" ha! Sincerely, Susan
Don't worry, we all do it. I'd say the heat and humidity make it worse! Never heard of those songs. But it could be because I don't remember :-)
Omg, I love it! I do those things all the time. I call it too-much-multitasking! I was once telling a friend I took vitamin E, but I couldn't remember what it was for. She said, "Uh, that one's for bad memory." Oh. Right.
Becky, That is reassurance. Nobody else remembers that carzy song and they are convinced I'm losing it. Thanks for the affirmationt hat it WAS the heat.
Susan,
I do that too! And I love your song; the verse would fit nicely into my day.
Lynn, you are a lot younger than I am, so no wonder you don't remember that goofy song, which was more of a chant.
And trust me, it will GET worse.
Tammy, I laughed out loud about the vitamin E. You are funny when you don't even try to be. Thanks for the affirmations.
Hi Linda,
Funny post. I have memory lapses all the time, but I remember the song about the monkey drinking wine. Maybe the 3, 6, 9 numbers are for the lottery?
Donna
Donna, I like your idea, and today at lunch I bought a lottery ticket on impulse. I never do! I hope you know something I don't know.
It could be your "memory vortex" rearing its ugly head. Mine visits so often I named it Manny, and he sucks pertinent information out of my brain and replaces it with stuff like, well, songs from the '60's! I'm not sure there is any fighting the memory vortex, even with vitamin E. Might be worth a shot, though. If I don't forget to give it a try.
I've read that blueberries are good for the brain. Therefore I've incorporated them into my daily routine. However, I can't remember if they're helping me or not.

Lisa, that might be a medical condition, now that you mention it! Memory vortex, Ha.
Pat, I laughed out loud when you said you can't remember if they're working. Oh how I can relate.
Oh, yeah, I remember 3,6,9, the goose drank wine...and I think it's perfectly okay to blame the heat and humidity for, well, everything. At least, everything we can remember. :-)
Oh my gosh,,,,these comments are THE BEST! I, too, laughed out loud at Pat's comment about the blueberries! And Tammy's vitamin E!!
I looked up that song online today....yeah, I'm kind of anal sometimes...Is that the correct spelling?? I don't want to call myself a BUTT!!
It's called: The Clapping Song, by The Belle Stars. (and right after I read what YOU posted, Linda, I immediately thought to myself, "clap, clap"!) I remember singing and clapping to this with girl friends... after all the clap clap lines, it goes into this: "My mama told me if I was goody that she would buy me a rubber dolly". You can find the entire lyrics here: http://www.songlyrics.com/the-belle-stars/the-clapping-song-lyrics/
Becky, now you have the clap-clap stuck in my mind, but it's okay, because in no time it will be gone. And no, you're not a butt, funny woman.
You're hilarious! My favorite blog of yours ever!
