Fortune Cookies

This evening we went to a Chinese Buffet. My fortune cookie was as generic as can be: In due time, good things will come your way.

I got to thinking about all of the contest submissions I have out there with March and April deadlines. Hmmm, maybe. In due time I'll let you know if I even come close with the Erma Bombeck contest.

There is humor in everyday events, but you have to be on the lookout. A Chinese young man asked his elderly dinner companion, "What if the Mayan calendar prediction is correct? I have a lot of anxiety about this." The old man said, "So, order anything you want."

Hi Linda: How do you find the contests you enter? Are you on the lookout for them? Good luck on the Erma Bombeck contest you mentioned. What is that about? I hope your generic fortune cookie's message comes true for you. I love to read the fortunes in those cookies. The only time I was upset was the night I cracked open the cookie and there was no fortune inside. Yikes! Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com

I liked the old man's answer - So, order anything you want! Funny.

Hi Susan,
The Erma Bombeck contest is an annual humor writer's contest, and several of my friends have won honorable mention. I'd be happy with that.
I spend an hour every morning on writer's sites looking for free contests, as I rarely pay to enter. Just search for creative writing or personal essay writing sites. I really like Funds for Writers. If you haven't signed up, you should. It's free even though they ask for a $5 donation, but for $15 annual fee, you get many more listings. keep writing

Giving myself deadlines helps. I made a resolution to submit at least one piece per month, and so far...so good!

Too funny. I always pay way too much attention to fortune cookies. I don't really want my fortune read...I want the cookie to magically give me good fortune.
