Our great escape

Things aren't always as they seem. I thought a spaceship had landed on this rooftop, but actually discovered it was someone's guest house. Can you imagine?

This summer was so brutally hot, all of our evergreen bushes burnt and the garden withered. Hubby and I wanted to run away, escape and leave all of our worries and cares behind.

Did you ever feel like acting on impulse? Not tell anyone where you are going or that you are even gone? Well we did just that.

I surprised him for his milestone birthday. We spent a week in the "Redneck Riviera" (Panama City Beach) and felt like two sneaky kids.

We both agree that this has been one of our best vacations ever. We laughed so much and enjoyed going to the movies, jumping ocean waves and swimming in the pool.
But it was the walks in the sugar white sand that made me happiest and drew us closer. Those strolls will satisfy my yearning until next year and our wonderful memories will linger. This photo was taken at daybreak in Navarre, Florida (pronounced nah-var), on a pristine, isolated narrow strip of beach where one can walk for miles and be one with the elements. It is my idea of paradise on earth.

Now it is back to reality, and school soon. I will catch up on visiting blogs this weekend. I missed reading your blogs, but it was nice to disconnect for a week.

A beautiful place and such a good picture of you both!! How tall is your husband? He looks like a giant in this shot. Glad you got to have some fun...yes, the summer wilted us all!

Good for you!

I consider it a getaway if I go to the store by myself, or if I drive to this little park overlooking the Mississippi and sit with a good book.

Shhh...don't tell.

Sounds glorious, Linda. And that photo! Wowsers. What a perfect poster it would make. Then you can look at it when winter gets you down. Missed you, girlfriend! Now I know where you absconded! Susan

I am not a beachy person, but that one does, indeed, look like paradise.

But you missed seeing the most beautiful thing in Navarre--my granddaughter!

It sounds like you two should take an impulsive trip every year.

And yes, Bill IS a giant. A scary giant. He wreaks havoc with women's rear ends, making sure they are thoroughly soda-soaked. Ladies, desperate to stay dry, run screaming when Bill enters the room.

Bookie has apparently never heard the Tale of Bill. Bookie--Be afraid. Be very afraid...

Being a beach girl myself, I'm envious of your trip. We hoped to spend a week in Sarasota on Siesta Key (my son lives there...the beach AND my kid...a two-fer!) but because of my daughter's surgery we had to cancel. I'm not sure now when we'll get down there. I'm going through beach withdrawals!

We didn't get to go to the beach this year, so I'm living vicariously through your photos! Thanks for sharing, glad you had a great time. Sometimes the last-minute plans are the best!

What a wonderful trip, sounds like you had a great time. I was lucky enough to go to Pensacola a few years ago which I believe isn't a million miles away from Navarre and I loved it. The beach where we holiday here at home in England is so different to Florida but oh so beautiful too. Lovely photo.

Oh that beach looks inviting! So glad you were able to beat the heat and find your bliss! I wonder if that spaceship is some kind of private commentary on the owners' out of town family...I think some of my kin might be from another planet!

I've been to Panama City, FL, and the water color is unlike anything I've ever seen before. So beautiful!

Glad you had a fun time.
