Multi genre writing increases your chances of publication. Once I asked a well known poet in town why he hadn't considered my poetry for inclusion in his anthology.
He said he considered me a Chicken Soup for the Soul writer. He was stunned to discover I have won awards for poetry, prose, memoir, fiction, and have published educational articles.
At open mics I usually read inspirational or humorous prose. Let this be a lesson to you. Be as diverse in your readings as you are in your writing.
The following two links will give you some idea of my other writing styles. Nothing like what you might expect.

Linda---I am lucky enough to have read some of your varied pieces. As a writer, you aren't stuck in a rut. You spread your wings as you type and imagine.
I've also heard you at several open mic events. Your readings are sometimes poignant and sometimes sidesplitting. Sometimes they're prose and sometimes they're poetry... but they're always well-crafted.
Its always a wise idea to diversify! :-)

How dare he pre-judge you! And whoever thought that being published in so many Chicken Soup books could be a detriment? Not this ol' Val, that's for sure.
I think it's great you write for many different kinds of publications, Linda. As they say, "Variety is the spice of life." Keep it up! Susan
Wow, Linda. Your poem packs a punch. Diverse indeed, but still from the heart albeit an angry one. We all have that at times. You go Chicken Soup girl! And maybe adopt a pen name? LOL
Your variety in styles and genres is the best way to get more writing credits. You've done well with this practice!
