I am counting on YOU

I was the recipient of counting on grace,
a novel by Elizabeth Winthrop at
Clara Gillow Clark.

counting on grace (no caps in title) is a glimpse into an uncomfortable truth about America in the early 1900's. The main character, twelve year old, Grace is based on a real person Addie Card, who like many children worked in the North Pownal Cotton Mill. This novel blends history and fiction. It is an easy read. I feel as if I know Grace, a very stoic, determined, left-handed, bright and active girl.

I visited the North East a few years ago and stood before some of these defunct mills trying to capture the essence of Americana. After reading, counting on grace, I have an entirely new perspective. I would recommend this book.

WILL YOU HELP ME? I am trying to establish a writer's platform, which is an absolute must for anyone hoping to publish a book. Please follow me on Twitter Linda O'Connell, WriterLindaO
and also check out my new post at Salon.com. This link should take you right to it. You do not have to "TIP" to make a comment.

I do appreciate all of my new, regular and ocassional followers. I will be attending a Writer's Guild event this morning about procrastination. Uhm, I have been up since 4:00 a.m, and it is almost 7:00. I have been procrastinating in blogland. This meeting has my name all over it.

Hi Linda - Ugh! The whole building a platform thing...a necessity for writers, but a lot of work. I think you've got a great start with this blog. I'd follow you on twitter, but I haven't jumped into that particular pool as yet. Where do people find the time for all this? As it is I spend so much time blogging that my writing often suffers. Truth? I blog more than I write. But...say it with me...platform! How do we balance? If you figure it out, please share.

Have fun at your morning event. I'll look forward to reading about it.

Hi, I'm back. Just want to say I love your Salon piece. Rod Stewart's raspy voice brings all kinds of memories when I hear it. I was in middle school when Maggie Mae saturated the airwaves, and just thinking about it now takes me back. Music is amazing. Rod is "ageless, timeless. . ." :)

I adored your Salon piece. I too do not consider Rod physically sexy, but his voice, and the use of mandolins (in his early days) ensured I stuck as a fan.

My husband always says he's "three times the man," when compared to Johnny Depp or Viggo Mortensen or any other man I drool over. He is of course speaking tongue in cheek. Perhaps Bill thinks the same of himself?

I echo all Lisa's comments. I am not on Twitter, and HOW do we do it all. I am spending too much time writing blogs too and not writing. Why, I am not even doing a good job of visiting all blogs and commenting!

Tell us what you learn this morning and just enjoy getting to go to a writing event!

Hi Linda....Enjoyed the Salon piece and enjoyed it. Can just see you sitting in the rain under those umbrellas. Now that's dedication!

Sorry, don't know anything about following on Twitter. I'm immersed with my blog, business course classes, and my eBay business. Don't go on to Twitter.

I would think your blog would be the best platform possible! Take care and have a great day. Susan

Linda---Have you read about the extension on a call for submissions about "cougars." It can be humorous. I thought you might be able to come up with something, if you have not already...Check it out at http://donnasbookpub.blogspot.com

Hi Linda, your writer's platform sounds very intriguing...something I would be interested in. I hope you enjoy your "procrastination event" with the Writer's Guild.

Please come on over to my blog as I have something for you.
