Sprucing up

I should not have spent all afternoon watching the Love It or List It real estate show. I am amazed at the expensive cost of living on the coasts. What costs us $150,000 for a home in the midwest would cost three to four times that amount elsewhere.

I love to watch the home buyers decide which of three houses to choose. I also like to watch the renovations. And that is how it all began this evening. Hubby asked what I wanted to do, and I said, "I want to go to the hardware store and buy replacement handles for our kitchen cabinets."

"Have you been watching that home and garden channel again?"

"Could have asked for jewelry." I smiled.

Fifty dollars and three hours later, my old cabinets have a new deep-cleaned lustre and cute brass and ceramic handles. Little things like this make me happy. Imagine if we did a complete renovation. Or imagine how high I'd be flying if I had a beach house. Oh my, a woman can dream.

I love that show, too. I'm usually amazed that they choose to stay until I start thinking about how much work it is to move...then I don't blame them a bit. It's the little things for sure. I get a little lift from knowing the dust bunnies have all been swept from under the couch. Sadly, it is not something that happens often. I've got stuff to do! Like watch Home & Garden.

Yes, everything you said about the Love it or List it show. We have come to all the same conclusions.
Sounds exciting, to me anyway, about your kitchen cabinets! Congrats!

It's good to know that you have a handle on the renovations.

Hi Linda,

I don't have cable now, but I did years ago. HGTV was my favorite channel.

Congrats on the mini-renovation. I love creativity whether it's writing, crafts, or crocheting.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Sometimes the simplest thing will give us the biggest lift. The couple of days between NM and camping, Hubby retained the front door, patched a bad varnish spot on the bath cabinet, and sanded-stained-sealed the step from utility to garage. All so small but look so nice. I bet those pulls look nice and make you feel good when you walk in and see them! Have a good weekend....

Aaah, dreams. I spend an unreasonable amount of time looking at real estate on the internet. I look at really fancy high priced houses to see how the other half live, then I look at more reasonably priced homes to see what I might buy or build if I won Lotto.

Little things do make a difference they give things a lift,
new handles are always good.

I've never watched that show, but it is true that sometimes changing just little details like that can make a big difference in how things look. :)

And with the beach house comes a handsome cabana boy...rippling muscles...a six-pack...non-hairy ears...non-hairy nostrils...and a willingness to learn.

Bill--you'll have to interview for the cabana boy job...

Oh, I love those shows, too, and for the reasons you mentioned. They inspire you to put little seashell knobs on some cabinets and just feel like you live in a beach house. And I laughed at what River said. I thought I was the only one....

Love, LOVE HGTV as well! 'Just wish I could turn some of these ideas into some semblance of reality!
Good for y'all! Little things mean a lot, don't they?

Hugs,
Myra

I just completed the same project. My oak cabinets were looking really shabby so I used a product called ReNuZit (sp?) first and then waxed the cabinets with the recommended wax. My cabinets now look updated and nearly new. (Did that sound like a commercial?)
