You say tomato and I say tahmahto

I had to put my hand over my own mouth to keep from laughing while I was in a restaurant bathroom. Two elderly women came in complaining about the world situation and how everything is so expensive and people are mean. They both entered stalls and continued to talk to each other.

"I've been alone  for years and it's not getting any easier without him."

"You're telling me. I'm living off Ira these days."

"What? Who? Huh?"

"I said, "Ira. You know Ira."

"I don't know no Ira."

"Oh you do, too."

"So where did you meet Ira?"

"Ira's from work."

"You haven't worked in years."

"So what! Ira's taking care if me in my old age."

"How old is he?"

"It's not a he, it's my ira like your ira."

"You mean IRA?"

"That's what I said, Ira."

Maybe you had to be there.

She's with Ira and I'm trying to ditch Sallie Mae.

Very funny, as usual.

I'm shocked that she did not include Ira's last name: ROTH.

Love it! Just hope he doesn't run out on her. That reminds me of the time I heard an elderly woman talk about sending her package "ups." I thought she meant up in the air, like airmail, till I realized she meant U.P.S. Thanks for the laugh.

Sounds like dialogue from a sit-com.

I had a feeling I should come over to visit you. You do excellent dialogue, you have an eye and ear for it, and for the humor in life. (You did leave a comment on my blog to observe people and I'd have plenty to write about. YES).
This is just what I needed. That is so funny. Reminds me of some conversations I've overheard in my life. Hmmm. I've just gotten an idea for a blog post...Thank you, Linda :) I'm glad I've gotten re-acquainted with you, and look forward to reading your work. btw, I see you live in St. Louis, MO. I got there once, way back in 1962 when my first husband was at Ft. Leonard Wood, just after we got married, and I came out to MO in the spring and one day we went to St. Louis. I remember that summer in Ft. Wood...from Salt Lake to Missouri: the humidity almost did me in...more memories. Thanks again...

How funny! You captured the dialogue perfectly, and you need to include it in one of your stories.
