How I lay me down to slumber

Landlocked in fluffy blankets,
I cruise the Great Muddy
as it percolates into the Gulf of Mexico
where an ocean breeze
snatches my sigh and
whips it out to sea on a turquoise wave.
Salt air smoothes my skin, briny water tames my mane.
My worries silhouette in fire-glow sunsets.

I pillow my head on cold winter nights,
snuggle, and lie
on warm sugar sands watching dolphins arc
as a steady percussive rhythm pounds in my ear.
Time thumbs the pages of my life faster
than I can “X” off another day,
yet it seems a lifetime
until summer vacation.

Every year we go to Florida. This year we booked our first Carribean cruise. I'm nervous, but I can't wait. Any cruisers out there have any advice for a newbie?

I've only been on one cruise and my best piece of advice to you is this...wear elastic waistband shorts.

Ha! That's what I hear. Did you feel the motion?

If you mean the rocking of the ship...yes. It didn't bother me, though. One evening was particularly rough and people dropped like flies with nausea. I had another drink.

The phenomenon called "sea legs" is true. After a while on the ship, when you venture on land it feels strange and you find yourself automatically trying to adjust for motion.

Loved the poem Linda. I have no advice about cruises because I've never been on one and don't care to. I do hear you eat a lot, so it seems that K9Friend gave some good advice - and funny too!

Wow--beautiful poem. You are so versatile!

Went on a cruise with my kids once and really worried about my daughter, because she tends to get motion sickness. We didn't feel the motion on our boat, though! It was too big. Oh, the things you'll write about after!

Tom and I went a couple years ago--did the Western Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean. My best advice is to make your reservation in the ship's fancy restaurant immediately, or you won't get to go there. We missed our chance.

What ports will you be going to?

Hi Syl,
Montego Bay, Grand Caymen, and Cozumel. We liked R.C. but the airfare was 2 grand from here to Miami because it was a weekend, so we are driving to Mobile, AL and leaving from that port, which saved $2,000 right off the bat. I am looking forward to it, but mid summer is a long way off.

Lovely, lovely poem, Linda. Made me sigh and wish for summer. I've also often wished to do a cruise, but certain folk (pointing now at the Beneficent Mr. Hall)wishes not.
