Case of mistaken identity

My granddaughter, who is getting married next May discovered that pictures can be deceiving. She found this lovely little place in the Smoky Mountains for her honeymoon and sent for the brochure.

She fell in love with the rustic cabins, the interior of the room, the hot tub, the landscape, the proximity to Dollywood, then, she saw IT and screamed.

"Oh, Nana, it has a small narrow building right next to our cabin. I'm looking on the map and I just told Justin, 'Oh No! absolutley no way am I going to be using an OUTHOUSE!' So, I went on line to check it out and I discovered that it's actually the woodshed."

I am still laughing at my funny honey.

Linda that is so funny. Don't imagine anyone would actually advertise for a place that has one of the real ones.

Too funny, Linda! But the mention of the "narrow house" reminds me of the days when my grandparents still had one. The inside was papered with pages of old movie magazines from the 1940's. And, of course, the old Sears Catalog was nearby for more than shopping!

And sadly, your granddaugter will get to an age when--certainly a QuikTrip bathroom is preferable--desperate times come for desperate measures. There are times when I'd like to turn my nost at a Johnny-on-the-spot or a boy scout camp latrine, but then I just have to pinch my nose shut and "use it."

ha ha ha ha ha ha That was funny, Linda. I'm with your granddaughter. I hate outhouses. Sometimes, thought my kidneys would burst until we got to "civilization" and a "real" potty pot. ha ha haha ha ha Susan

We had to use an outhouse at my grandpa's cabin on the St. Francis River. The worst part was the daddy long-legs. The place was crawling with them, no matter how much we sprayed.

The trade-off was snagging crawdads from the creek with string and pieces of hot dog, drinking ice-cold water from a spring that shot out of a pipe in the side of the hill, and catching baby toads along the dusty tire-tracks on the way to the river.

Reminds of Girl Scout camping days in tents. Did I really need to go after we went to bed? Probably, but knowing I had to walk to the "narrow building" made me "hold on" until morning. Funny post, Linda.

Too funny!!! But I'm right there with her...NO outhouses for me. In our camping days (which ended back in 2006), I was known to ONLY go to campgrounds that offered flushing toilets. If they only had outhouses, we would drive on to another campground!!

Now, I'm a hotel kinda gal, and preferably a fancy hotel at that.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend.

Blessings,
Patti

Oh, that's so funny! Hopefully she'll give the place a "second look".

Very cute story. And I'm with her--I don't like outhouses anywhere, but definitely not on a honeymoon (although doesn't the classical one have a moon on the front? Hmmm)!

Linda, it's a long, ugly story how we got from Florida to Idaho. We are hoping and praying to move back. One more cold winter and one more holiday season away from family depresses me more than I can express.

I am your newest follower. I look forward to reading your posts.

That was very funny, Linda! You can't possibly have a granddaughter that is getting married next year. You're far too young, unless she is going to be a child bride!!

She's not gonna rough it on her honeymoon eh? Well the voice of experience here thinks it's good she sets her boundaries right here and now. That way her hubby will know right off the bat where she stands if he ever wants to take her to some ramshackle hotel on a vacation...Like the one we stayed in at the ocean a few years back...
