Secret senses

I am reading Amy Tan's book, The Hundred Secret Senses. I'm 33 pages in, and already can't put it down.

Got me to thinking, we all have that extra bit of sixth sense. We seldom listen to our inner voice that warns us, makes our skin prickle in a dangerous situation. That little voice that whispers, BEWARE, and puts our senses on high alert.

In this day and age, we have to be aware of our surroundings. Suspicious characters. But we can't live in a bubble.  We must live our lives and be aware.

Did you ever have a moment when you listened to your sixth sense, crossed the street, avoided a situation and consequently benefited you?

Many years ago we were on vacation with a 3year old and 7 year old. I went up to our room to retrieve something amd left Bill with the kids on the beach. I saw two suspicious characters get on the elevator,  so I took the stairs.
When I entered the hotel room, I heard a male voice, Hey, let's get out of here."
I ran down to get Bill.

He ran upstairs and when he opened the door, he heard the guy say, "Good job."
He came to get me. I stepped in the room and heard these guys still talking. I was petrified. Then he lifted up Kyle's tractor with a dozen voice actions.

Talk about relief!  We had to put that toy in the fridge because it wouldn't shut up.

Linda--I love Amy Tan, but haven't read that one yet.

I'm looking forward to our next critique night.

Heh, heh! We had a yellow plastic bulldozer that would come on by itself in the middle of the night. Down in the basement, of course. It took me forever to figure out what it was, with that buzzing noise, and the whacks from bumping into things fore and aft as it reversed direction trying to get somewhere.

Yes, I have repelled many a weirdo from my magnet because I got THAT FEELING.

Have you seen the show "The Middle?" The parents took all the loud toys and put them in a basket in the basement, then the kid found them! Funny!

The sixth sense it is there but we sometimes don't listen or read it wrong.

ha ha ha ha ha That was a good one, Linda.

I swear, there's a baby doll that laughs around here. Once in awhile it's cute. But sometimes the laugh begins to sound like a lunatic. Then I put the dolly out on the porch. ha ha ha Susan

I always regret it when I fail to heed my hackles rising. A few years ago I had a woman come in to set up her "son" in a camper to live here. He gave me the creeps and I jacked up the rent price hoping they would go away. She paid and two weeks later he shot her in the chest with a sawed off shotgun and killed her ..... because she told him to shut up. Turns out he was not her son, he was her boyfriend. He was in his 40's, she was in her 80's. I did not blog about this incident!

We live in a violent world, so naturally we have to be on the alert. I always prefer climbing the stairs than taking the elevator. People should look at faces to detect suspects, and not constantly on their iphone's screens.

Haha! Cute story. I remember my sons having some talking toys that we finally had to take the batteries out of because we never knew when they would go off. :D

I've walked past talking toys at the store and nearly jumped out of my skin. LOL Glad this wasn't a worse situation for you, Linda!
