Mom always did things HER way

One month from release date, March 19th, in time for Mother's day gift giving! My story, The Can Opener Queen, is included in this collection.

My mom did not make homemade food, but she served us yummy meat and potato meals. My story is about a time she decided to bake chocolate chip cookies, (no mixing bowl or standard ingredients) which led to a disastrous outcome.

I hope you buy a copy of this book for yourself or someone else. Easy to read, 101 short stories of love, gratitude and wisdom.

Did your mom prepare a favorite dish?

My Mom made the best fried chicken. She was no baker, though. My Dad made the best German Chocolate cake. She once tried to make a cake and failed three times in a row. Daddy was so mad at her because she tossed each effort in the garbage, wasting all those eggs and butter. The cakes fell and Daddy would have eaten a fallen cake rather than throw it away. Guess that is where I get my thriftiness from. I miss him every day.

Linda--Congratulations on another CS story. How many does that make?

My mom made the best scalloped potatoes. What was there not to love: potatoes, cheese, butter, milk and a bit of onion. (She was a great cook. That was just one of my favorites.)

My mom made THE BEST hot rolls! I wish I had her recipe. She'd set the bowl of dough, draped with a damp kitchen towel, in front of the fireplace to rise, then roll them into crescent shape. When they came out of the oven, she rubbed butter all over the floury, golden brown tops. I can almost smell them now! She always made extra, and stored them in a plastic cake-saver turned upside down. We raided it quite often.

Congrats on your story making the ingredient list on the latest "Soup."

Hi Linda.
That's great you are being published in another Chicken Soup book. So happy for you.
My Mom loathed cooking but she was actually pretty good at it anyway. She made truly luscious pecan rolls. When they came out of the oven, oh my, it was jump-for-joy time. She also made raspberry pie and delicious beef hash and turkey dinners. I still use a lot of her make-by-hand recipes.
Take care and keep warm. Did you notice yesterday that in my book cover a day challenge, I nominated you! Check it out on FB. Susan

I loved my mom's homemade bread. When her bread was baking, the whole house smelled good. Congratulations on having another entry published in a Chicken Soup book. How exciting!
