Things that made me sigh with satisfaction

My daughter and I took Liam to the pumpkin patch, but it was too close to his nap time and we didn't get too many smiles, until he picked up a small white pumpkin and excitedly shouted, "Ball." and tossed it!
Hubby and I went on a picnic midweek. We drove about an hour into Illinois, to Carlyle Lake where we used to camp. We were pleased to see the migratory birds dotting the lake like marshmallows. Upon closer look, we couldn't tell if they were whooping cranes or pelicans. They were huge birds with wide wingspans and black markings on the underside of their wings.
A few years ago we saw a huge flock of these birds way up high in the sky above the river.

Farmers were out in droves on tractors and farm equipment harvesting cornfields. It's that time of year. Winter wheat or hay is rolled into bundles, sustenance for the farm animals.

We enjoy driving the back roads through small towns. We came upon this ramshackle homestead, long abandoned. My imagination went wild. If I were younger, I would have gone into the home. I used to love doing that. To stand in silence and listen with my heart... to see, hear and feel the voices of the past. To discover the old sinks where dishes were hand washed and dried, antique ranges where some woman baked biscuits for her family. To connect with yesterday.

What is your greatest autumn treasure as the days begin to shorten and cooler weather prevails?

So happy for the things that warm your heart. I love the abandon places...I feel the same way. I would love to get a glimpse of who and what was alive there yesterday. Thanks for sharing!

I love the cooler weather. The gorgeous red and orange-colored leaves. The things dying off/going dormant as they wait for Spring...

That photo of the abandoned homestead would make a great notecard...

Great pictures and lasting memories!

Sweetie Mom and I hit the road yesterday and landed in Bird-in-Hand, PA. We always enjoy poking around the small shops. Our final stop was an old-fashioned grocery store. I'm now enjoying a chocolate shoo-fly pie.

Sweet Grandson you have. At least one of them right.

You have more Grandchildren. I had read that before.

Blessings they are.

It is nice to think of what took place in that sweet home of long ago.

Memories are golden in the heart.

That was a nice excursion, Linda.

My greatest autumn treasure is being able to see yet another season roll in, in glorious colored splendor. So privileged to still be alive and well. Today, hubs and I got iced coffees and sat on a hill overlooking a gloriously beautiful lake.We also munched a freshly made cinnamon bun each, compliments of my fabulous baker cousin. It was such a gift. Susan

I can't wait to see what costume Liam will have for Halloween.

Fall is my favorite season. I love the smell of dead crunchy leaves at dusk, perhaps with a bit of smoke mixed in from a campfire or leaf-burning.

I love crisp air, blue October skies, bonfire smoke, multi-colored leaves, and apple cinnamon scent. Fall is a sweet beginning to the entire holiday season that fills my heart with lovely memories and unadulterated joy.

Love that old farmstead, and I'm with you, Linda---I'd love to go inside, too. I grew up in New England, so autumn to me is all about the fall color and the scents of fall, the earthy smell and cooler temps. I've been sick with the flu, but hope to get up to the North GA Mountains before the end of the month. The colors don't compare to New England, but they still make me think of my childhood home.

What an adorable little man! You are blessed! :) I love autumn - the weather, the family times, and all that good stuff. Heading to the farm with my grandson this Saturday.

That is such a cute picture of Liam. I think my favorite part of autumn would have to be the changing colors of the leaves. This time of year you can almost watch them change right in front of you.

What an adorable picture of Liam with those pumpkins that are almost as big as he is! Every now and then, I pass a beautiful little vignette with dark blue skies and vibrant mosaic colors that makes my heart flutter as much as those leaves.
