What does it for YOU?

I am thrilled to have received an acceptance from Sasee Magazine. My story about my son, his little boy, and me is going to be published in January issue. This story is special to my heart. Can't wait to share it with all of you.

I look a bit worn in this photo, but I loved the lamp post. I'm not fond of having my picture taken, because I see all my flaws. Years ago when I was half my age and complained to my doctor about my crows feet wrinkles, he said, "You see wrinkles when your face is six inches from the mirror. No one else looks at you that closely. So your flaws will always be more obvious to you than anyone else." I like to think that's true.

This is the second week we attempted to visit with mall Santa, but Liam is still apprehensive. He did go close enough to get a candy cane, though. I think he has a sweet tooth like me.
Made me think about life in general. What motivates or entices you or me to do anything? A little bribe? A reward? Self satisfaction? Do you have to coax yourself sometimes to do what you know needs to be done?

I am going to admit something here that I am ashamed of. Every time I took a break from writing yesterday, I reached my hand in the cookie jar... a dozen times. To be honest, it was a baker's dozen of those home made chocolate chip delights I devoured.

THE END, as Liam says when he reads a book. Sun is shining and I am going to go walk off a few cookies. Hope I don't work up an appetite. That would be my luck.

Congratulations on acceptance of your story, Linda. My girls were always very apprehensive as little girls, to meet Father Christmas! I'm afraid that I have also been dipping into the cookie jar a but too much recently. I think it's the time of the year! 😳

Your cookie snacking made me smile. I just ate four Lindor White Peppermint chocolates...sigh...but, hey, it's okay! :-)

Love the cute Liam photo. I was always scared of those mall Santas as a child. I have never had my kids go see one.

Also...wrinkles?? Pfffft. You look fabulous!

Into every stomach, a little cookie (or 13) must fall! Congrats on your Saseeness! I can't wait to read it.

I am most motivated to do something for my boys. If it's something they need, I will put aside my distaste for the task, and get right to it. Unfortunately, they don't seem to need me to submit stories...

Congratulations! I often wonder about the wisdom of inviting small children to accept sweets from old men in red suits . . .

I hate pictures of myself, I see all my flaws. It is better to wait a few years, then when you look at the picture, you see yourself differently. Congrats on your story! Thirteen years ago I wrote my first "book". I compiled all the little stories of Adrienne's childhood and handwrote them, accompanied by pictures in a memory book for her. Gave it to her pregnant self for Christmas. It ranked high on her list of favorite gifts, right up there with the Bassett Hound puppy she got for her 10th birthday. This year I am working on a book I bought years ago when my granddaughter, Layla was born. It is a book of stories about your Grandmother. Sort of suggestions followed by a blank page to fill in. This year she is 16. She did a school paper on my dad and had her DNA sent off to one of those labs that tell you your heritage. I felt like this would be the right time to finish the book and give it to her. Truly a labor of love. She is a special soul, my granddaughter.

Kathy--I think you should also turn a video camera on and tell stories for your granddaughter. She'll love to have you voice to listen to at some point when you can no longer talk to her... Just a thought.

Linda--Your story--since you shared it in our critique group--is a touching one. I know everyone who reads it will enjoy. Congratulations.

Congratulating you never gets old. I'm so proud to know you! You're an inspiration. I know I've said that before, but I do mean it. You're so prolific. And try not to beat yourself up over the cookies. That was yesterday. Today is a fresh start. And to quote Scarlett, "Tomorrow is another day!"
