Dressed inappropriately

I don't quite understand what's going on in our town. I know that at the slightest rise in temperature  many females drop their socks and slip into flip flops. But, it's not the girls this time. They're still wearing proper foot wear.

Ever since New Year's Day it seems everywhere we go we see males in shorts. The meterologist predicted that it was going to be near forty degrees, but it isn't, and hasn't been. It's been freezing and BELOW. No, these guys are not wearing Speedos. They're baggy shorts that reach the knee or below. But it boggles my mind. Are they acclimated to warmer winters? This is crazy.

I know it would behoove a teenager to wear a coat. We saw three shivering teens wearing hoodies as outerwear trying to cross a street. They were shaking. Absolutley no coats for this generation.

Now, I could understand if it were a generational statement these fellows were making, but these guys are from multi-generations. I've seen guys as old as grandpas gimping around in shorts.

Then, I got to thinking, how is their wearing shorts any different from my having to wear a skirt in high school because females were not allowed to wear pants, let alone jeans? Sure, our legs were often red and chapped, but we survived. I'm no longer feeling sorry for these numb nutty guys.

Oh goodness, I can relate to wearing skirts in the snow ... slacks were only allowed on "Groady" day.
... and how about the tourists here in Phoenix who flock to the pool/spa while the rest of us are zipped to our nostrils in ski jackets - ha!

My 14-year-old wants shorts all the time. When I command that he wear pants, he refuses even a hoodie. "I'm just going into school. There's no reason to have it there. It won't fit in my locker." Huh. I've seen the lockers. They are full-length. Besides, he could leave it in my classroom closet. I think it's a hormone thing.

The girl students insist on wearing skirts and flimsy tops and little ballerina-looking shoes with no socks. They at least complain non-stop that they are freezing in my 70-degree classroom. It's a fashion thing with them.

The old men I can't explain.

I've seen men do that too. I don't understand it either. I can also remember not being allowed to wear pants in school. We wore long warm knee socks with our skirts to try and keep our legs warm in the winter. If I had had a choice, though, I would have worn pants.

I have noticed the same thing, had the same thoughts at you. I love pants, no longer own a skirt...I thought the guys a little silly...but then I love to see a man nicely dressed in a kilt! So...no further comment...

My son is 24 and STILL wears shorts in the fall and winter.

I've given up harping at him...

I remember skirts and galoshes. On a more current note, I do know a man who shovels snow in shorts. Can't see his footwear for the flying white stuff. Probably sneaker.

That's right Linda. Don't you feel sorry for those guys. As you say, we certainly weren't allowed to wear trousers at school (or work, when I first started). We just had to freeze. It is funny to see the young ones freezing with no coats on. Must be mad!! Hee Hee!!

I see lots of teenaged boys in shorts, even with snow on the ground. I thought the same thing about those torturous skirts we wore! I bet if someone ordered boys and men to wear shorts, they'd stop.
