Smell that?

A scent can evoke so many memories. I have been looking for just the right candle to fragrance the computer room. I spent a few bucks at Yankee Candle, a few more at department stores, and I even burned several candles that had been gifted to me. The 'balsam fir' made my nose run and when my husband opened the door and walked in, I took one look at him and prayed his face wouldn't freeze in that grimace. I swear some clown poured tuna fish liquid into the 'beach candle'. The 'cheery-cherry' candle made my teeth ache, it smelled so sweet. I went to Wal-Mart and found this eight inch tall candle in a jar with a ceramic shade for ten bucks. The fragrance is caramel pecan, and I love it. That aroma reminds me of walking through little shops in Kimmswick, a town about thirty miles away. All of the old turn of the last century, small, wooden homes have been converted to craft shops, and they all smell wonderful this time of year. The messages painted on the shade make me as happy as the fragrance: LOVE, PEACE,HOPE,JOY. These are my wishes to all of you.

Little things make me so happy. Do you have a favorite candle fragrance?

I love the balsam...reminds me of New England woods. I like Home Sweet Home too with the strong cinammon. I do not light candles like I did though, eventhough I love them. After my folks house burned down and we had to dig through the debris for things and clean up the mess...I am sensitive to fire and burned smell. We drove into Las Vegas, NM once and said I smelled an old fire. Sure enough a couple blocks off the square we saw a burned two story house. I do still light candles on dark winter days, but only one at a time and right by me!

Hi Linda....I love Yankee Candles, followed by Village. Both are very, very fragrant. Yankee's Maple Butter is ONE of my favorites. It burned all day and makes the whole house smell like panny cakes. Yummy yum yum. Of course, NO CALORIES and that's even better.

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Village's Orange Cinnamon. Now that one fragrances two floors of this house and it's a pleasant, wonderful smell.

Take care and have a nice Sunday. Susan

I don't have a favorite brand or fragrance. It just depends on my particular mood, and/or time of the year. Right now, of course, it's Christmasy aromas!! I will say, though, as far as brands go...one of my fav's is Slatkin which can be found at Bed & Bath and online. I especially like the 2 or 3 wick "plain glass" ones. They burn straight down and not one ounce is wasted, as opposed to some jar types.

Hi Cluadia,
Sorry to hear about your folks' fire. I am very cautious with candles too. Wow, that is something! you could actually smell that fire from so far away. I only light candles in winter, and usually only around the holidays. Is Home Sweet Home a Yankee Candle?

Susan,
I don't know about Village candles. Is it local? Orange cinnamon sounds like a delight.

Becky,
I will have to check Slatkin out. I can't stand candles that cave in in the middle, so far this jar candle is keeping it's shape and is a clean burner. See you next week.

Hi Linda - I love candles and burn them frequently, usually sticking to apple/cinnamon, gingerbread, that kind of thing. While working on NaNo, my ritual began with the lighting of a YC beach scent...it reminded me of Cape Cod where we often vacationed when I was a child and I would walk the beach and make up stories for hours. Fortunately, tuna and other fishy smells remained completely at bay. :)

I don't have a favorite scent, but I'm partial to Henri Bendel because I've never smelled one that curls your...face...like the one your hubby smelled! I generally don't burn food scents because they make me hungry, but love to smell them out shopping or at other people's houses!

Linda,
That is too funny! I have the same problem with candles, spent some money, light some gifted candles (okay, we both know that those gifted candles are really re-gifted candles!) and choked on the too-sweet, cloying fragrance.
Then, I, too, was at Walmart last week, and saw the shelves full of scented candles. I stuck my nose close to a few of them and grimaced (just like your hubby!), and then leaned in to smell one more. It was PERFECT! No lamp shade on it (although yours is really cute), but I bought it took it home, and placed it on the fireplace mantel where I light it every night.
The fragrance?...
...Caramel Pecan.
; )
